From Canada to Hawaii

“You could make a living doing that kind of thing.” I suppose I could, but I had never thought about it, until then. I followed a crowd of people, leaving the meeting and headed towards my office at the other end of the hall. The office had been busier than usual that morning, so I had to walk past a busload of people to get to my desk.

As I sat down in my chair with a hot cup of coffee I picked up on the way a million thoughts ran through my mind, one which had never crossed it before; travelling. My boss, Peter Belmont was offering me and another client a job travelling around the world as journalists. I had imagined myself as a journalist in the future, but never thought it would be so soon and involve such an exciting opportunity like this.

There was nothing wrong with my cosy life in Canada, I loved how picturesque the city was, but maybe now was time for a change, an adventure, to a place I had only dreamed of visiting, Hawaii.

The entire day seemed to drag on for ages, mainly because I couldn’t concentrate, my mind gradually slipping away from my work. All I could think about was the new job I had been promoted to.

As I glanced out of my office window, the clouds that had once filled the sky had now vanished to reveal pure sunshine. Papers seemed to be piling up on my desk, getting higher by the hour, making it difficult for me, as I was the most unorganised person I knew.

My flight was planned to leave the next morning at the crack of dawn so I decided to pack up my desk and leave work early to begin packing for my trip. Going to Hawaii was going to the most relaxing thing I had ever done.

A short time later I arrived home at my small unit that I shared with my best friend. It was all going to change in just a matter of an hour. I ate my dinner and went to bed early to get all the rest I needed for the next couple of weeks.

The next day I packed all of my luggage into the back of a taxi and we left for the airport. The flight took just over eight hours and by the end I just wanted to get off the plane to explore the city. I was welcomed by friendly natives, comforting weather and a view of beautiful mountains.

I reached into my carry-on bag and pulled out my journal I was going to write in and began writing. I had an endless amount to write about considering I had just arrived. The wildlife, tropical fruits, so different compared to my home back in Canada.

After walking through the airport and arriving at my hotel I felt myself relax and take in the fresh air. I walked to the beautiful beach across from my hotel and let my feet sink into the sand. Watched people scuba diving, snorkelling and the amazing sunset in the distance. I could tell this was going to be a great trip, and an even better one to write about.
